There is a lively blog discussion going on these days at Cohocton Wind Watch. A photo simulation of the Finger Lakes Region shows some alarming possibilities.

We are especially concerned with this futuristic landscape because, in addition to hating spinny whirly things, we also happen to like baseball.
And let's face it, the Baseball Hall of Fame, situated in picturesque Cooperstown, just wont be fun to visit amidst all this. Wind turbines are a violation of the pristine wilderness that is a baseball diamond - with its native grasses, indigenous fried food supply, and endangered species (baseball parks being the last bastion of the goatee, after all).

First off, the SuckWind team would like to offer its apologies for seemingly falling off the blogosphere map.

In truth, we have not been neglecting our important duty as purveyors of Wind Fact, but engaging rather in a journey of epic proportions - a journey around the wild United States to experience the national wind "scene" for ourselves. We interviewed locals and yokels, slept in shadow flickering wastelands, mourned the loss of avian life (and on one hungry occasion, rejoiced for the vital sustenance it gave us), explored vast turbine nacelles for days on end (whodathunk you could get lost in one of those things?), used low frequency vibration devices to simulate wind turbine effects (NOTE: interestingly enough, we actually found these devices to be quite pleasurable) and from time-to-time wrote poetry - the likes of which we will reprint on an intermittent and unreliable basis, at moments during the day when you likely wont need it.

We also have a vast collection of photos we took on our epic journey, and we plan to share these with you as well. In the meantime, we hope you continue to peruse the Burlington Free Press on a daily basis, not only for its excellent coverage of the wind issue here in Vermont but for its quality writing on world events.

Historic Sheffield vote says NO to wind

On December 1, 2005, residents of Sheffield, VT, laid down the law on UPC Wind's proposal to build a wind facility on nearby Hardscrabble Mountain (well, not technically 'the law'-- the town-level vote is largely irrelevant to the state permitting process.. but then again, voting is largely irrelevant in most situations).

Sheffield citizens rejected the project by a resounding 93 against to only 120 in support.
